Eben Dyer Jordan was the co-founder with Benjamin Lloyd Marsh of Jordan Marsh in 1851. Jordan and Marsh were skillful and enterprising entrepreneurs and they would rapidly expand their business from wholesale to retail. Boston Historian Anthony Sammarco recounts the story of this partnership, and the move to a newly designed five-story building, which unveiled the novel concept of department shopping under one roof. Come learn about this regional New England icon and how by the 1970s it had become the largest department store chain in the nation.
